Genre Difference, Repetition and Similarity.


The Thriller Genre is different from most of the other genres because on the surface many of them look entirely different from each other. For instance, Insidious is a horror thriller, whereas Angels and Demons is an example of a scientific thriller.




Another example of two thrillers, which are very different from each other, in terms of mise en scene, characters and narrative events, are Shutter Island and Deep Impact.



Shutter Island is more of a psychological thriller, with deep meaning and investigation of the series of events. Therefore it requires more intellectual thinking, so the target audience would be older than 18. Whereas Deep Impact is a classic Apocalypses thriller, featuring the "the end of the world" or the global catastrophe.
